The strategic objective of this project is to provide a new methodological base for decision making in seismic hazard/risk management and safety. The audience for this are institutional organizations, the public and private sector including SMEs.
The central objective of VRAGEO is to deliver a Seismic Hazard Information Platform, a service addressed both to specialists and decision makers as well as for media, which enables open access to seismic hazard information in Romania due to Vrancea source in support of GMES (Global Monitoring of Environment and Security) through the development of an operational framework, a set of supporting tools and advanced geospatial
and in-situ monitoring and surveillance methodologies for Vrancea tectonic active region.
Main objectives of the VRAGEO project are defined as :
- To build a complex geodata base , GIS type structured in multiple satellite and in-situ monitoring geophysical/geochemical, geodinamical, geodetical, geoelectromagnetic,seismic and geologic data by historical and assimilating fresh data from existing satellite and other sensors;
- To detect crustal deformations based on radar satellite and reference GPS data -stress fields to identify areas where one event may trigger another in Vrancea area and their correlation with seismic presignals from geophysical, geomagnetic, ionospheric,natural radioactivity (Radon) and satellite data;
- To precise localize increased geophysical activity zones and times accounting for triggered events in conditional probabilities in order to determine or to confirm high seismic risk areas;
- To develop Models of Lithosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere and Plate Kinematics for Vrancea zone, in order to explain the physical mechanisms and seismicity activity validated with the geophysical parameters with precursory character derived from geospatial and in-situ data.
- To mitigate and improve the preparedness of geological disasters in Romania helping to reduce the effects of Vrancea earthquake natural disaster upon the citizens and infrastructure of Romania and Europe.
